Sue,

Thanks for your comment and sorry if I irritated you about sulfites and headaches. Sulfite allergies are AWFUL--no question about it, and clearly your body's reactions show that they FAR exceed even migraines, which are awful in their own right. (I know -- I have had them, too, but not from sulfites.) I try to be very thorough in my research for these blogs, and the literature I looked at did not support the link between headaches or migraines and sulfites--as an allergic reaction by itself. In my opinion, if my body was reacting as strongly as yours does to sulfites, it does not seem unlikely that there could be a chain reaction that sparks all sorts of other biological events. However, I am not a doctor or health professional. I wrote with the information I had available at the time. I'm so sorry about your sulfite allergy--I had read about how severe they can be, and your story is clear evidence why they make sulfite-free organic wine!

I just want to comment on an article of yours I have recently been linked in a sulfite allergy support group I belong to.

I take GREAT exception to your comments that the sulfites DON'T cause headache in sulfite sensitive individuals. That is a blatantly FALSE statement. Almost EVERY one of us gets severe migraine intensity headache that will last DAYS if we get into any sulfites. I got those migraines back before I even knew I had a sulfite sensitivity. I really miss a lot of things that have natural sulfites .. including good beer and wines. I also miss onion and garlic .. and yes they have high enough natural sulfur compounds that those of us severely sensitive will react to them as well. I had a reaction at Christmas just from sitting NEAR the dip a friend made that had a lot of garlic in it. Reaction was strong flushing and asthma attack .. btw I ONLY have asthma in relation to sulfites .. not the other way around .. I have always been strange :D.

This is the article I am referring to btw
